Pai has recently[when?] emerged on the Thailand tourist map, with significant construction improvements along with an airport with several daily flights, nine (9) 7-Elevens, several small- to medium-size luxury resorts totaling more than 350 hospitality properties, several live music clubs, beer bars, and three sets of traffic lights. It has resulted in an increase in corporate engagement and real estate investment by both farang (Western Caucasians) and urban Thais. [Innovative research?] While some see these changes as ushering in a new era of wealth for Pai, others see them as a loss of Pai’s traditional customs and culture.

There are a lot of tourists throughout the tourism season, which runs from November to March. Prior to 2006, foreign visitors dominated, however, Thai tourists are gradually coming up in terms of numbers, especially since Pai appeared in two successful Thai-made love films, The Letter: Jod Mai Rak and Ruk Jung. During high season, visitor numbers soar and Pai has traffic bottlenecks and shortages of power, water, and gasoline. Pai has music events as well as an international Enduro competition. Chefchaouen, located under the rugged peaks of the Rif, is one of Morocco’s most beautiful places, and an artistic, blue-washed mountain village that feels like its own planet. While tourism has taken root, the balance between convenience and authenticity is exactly perfect. With red-tiled roofs, bright-blue homes, and small passageways converging on lively Plaza Uta El Hammam and its rebuilt kasbah, the ancient medina is a joy of Moroccan and Andalusian influence. Long renowned to backpackers for its easy access to kif (cannabis), the town has swiftly gentrified and now provides a variety of great lodging, nice cuisine, much to do, and no hassles, making it a great alternative to a frenetic multicity trip. This is an excellent location for relaxation, exploration, and day excursions to the cool forested hills.

It is run by the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, which also runs the nearby Night Safari, River Wonders, Jurong Bird Park[a], and the upcoming Rainforest Wild Park. The Mandai Wildlife Reserve is made up of all five parks and has about 15,000 animals from 1,000 different species. There are over 315 animal species at the zoo, with approximately 16% of them being threatened species. Every year, about 2 million people visit the zoo. Singapore Zoo has traditionally displayed animals in realistic, “open” displays with concealed walls, moats, and glass separating the animals from people. It is home to the world’s biggest captive colony of orangutans. Various international measures have evaluated the Singapore Zoo favorably.

As part of the zoo’s wildlife conservation initiatives, the Wildlife Healthcare & Research Centre opened in March 2006. The center demonstrates Singapore Zoo and Night Safari’s dedication to conservation research by providing infrastructure for the parks and their international zoological partners to effectively implement their research programs. The Singapore Zoo is the world’s first zoo to raise polar bears in the tropics. To safeguard species, the zoo also launched a number of rescue and conservation initiatives.
